Privateers Take Two of Three; Trail Series 3-2

2016-02-28

They had their backs up against the proverbial playoff wall after the first weekend of play, but the St. John's Global Warranty Privateers travelled to Rocky Harbour and took two of three games, to bring this series home, down three games to two.

Friday night, Adam Nolan scored both Privateers goals, including the winner just under two minutes into the second overtime period, as his team go a 2-1 decision to trim the Western Kings series lead in half. Joel Abbott made 32 saves to get the win.

Nolan would score the winner once more, one night later, in another 2-1 Privateers victory. This time, it was in regulation and Chris Murphy scored the other St. John's goal. Abbott was once again between the pipes, making another 26 saves in the win and tied the series at two.

Abbott started Sunday morning again, but was pulled after the first period of play, allowing two goals on 14 shots. Jordan Yaremchuk would step in and play the final 40 minutes, stopping 23 of 26 shots, but the Privateers couldn't muster any offense, and they would get shutout, 5-0.

Western take the 3-2 lead into the Goulds this coming weekend. Game times are 3:00pm on Saturday for Game #6, and 10:00am Sunday morning, for Game #7. Come on out and catch some exciting hockey. These two teams are certainly in the playoff spirit and are assured to put on a great show.
