Series Shifts Out West; Kings Lead 2-0

2016-02-22

It was a very competitive opening weekend in the semi-final series against the Western Kings, with one game going to overtime and the other being a one-goal game. Both games could have gone either way, but unfortunately for the St. John's Global Warranty Privateers, they were on the losing end of both.

Kings 5, Privateers 4 (Sunday)

Matthew Bonnell’s unassisted goal at 13:31 of the third period stood as the winner. Brayden Ryan, George Young, Iain Pilgram and Justin Compton also scored for the visitors. Scoring for St. John’s were Matthew O’Leary, Jack Keough, Adam Nolan and Max French.

Shots on goal were 32-30 for St. John’s. Goalies of record were Luke House for the Kings and Jordan Yaremchuk for the Privateers.

Kings 4, Privateers 3 (Saturday)

Pilgram was the hero in the series-opener, scoring at 9:18 of overtime.

Nick Childs, Jalen Gillard and Adrian Ward had the goals in regulation time. Replying were Nolan, French and Alex Noseworthy.

House stopped 22 shots for the Kings. Joel Abbott made 33 saves for the Privateers.

The series shifts to Rocky Harbour next weekend with games on Friday (8:30) and Saturday (7:30) night and Sunday morning (11:00).
